Leash-Free Areas

One of the joys of owning a dog is taking it for long walks.  These are very important for maintaining a dog’s healthy weight and helps the owner keep fit too.  Off-leash or free roam areas allow the dog to sniff, run and meet other dogs. However, use of these area requires responsible dog ownership – your dog must be fully-supervised in these areas and you should clean up after you dog.  Owners of dogs should ensure that they have a plastic bag or acceptable item to clean up after their dogs as failure to do so can result in an infringement being issued.

Most councils provide a list of leash-free free areas under their jurisdiction on their web site.  The following URLs provide links to up-to-date lists/brochures of both “on leash” and “off leash” areas in the region.
